Belts and hoses are critical auto parts, but they're often overlooked. Questions about them are common in our Porsche Monterey service department. Depending on your vehicle, driving habits and mileage, belts and hoses should be replaced every 36,000 to 50,000 miles or sooner. Here's a brief explanation of each part.

Main Types of Belts

There are two main types of belts that keep your vehicle running smoothly: timing and serpentine. Timing belts act on your engine, ensuring that the camshaft and crankshaft remain in synchronicity and moving smoothly in relation to each other. Serpentine belts are continuous belts that run between a wide array of vehicle components, such as the water pump, air pump, power steering pump, alternator and engine. A serpentine belt delivers power as it undulates throughout your vehicle components.

Types of Hoses

"Hoses" is a generic term referring to a series of hoses that transport power, heat, coolant or water throughout your vehicle's radiator, heater core, engine and clutch.

Have your belts and hoses checked today during a routine service appointment at our Seaside dealership service department. We look forward to meeting you.
